Can you explain why your religion makes sense?
My religion is Christianity. I am a firm believer in Christianity. Fear not, for God does not make bad things happen, but the Devil does. The devil is basically the God of this world, and we are soldigers. We need to pray and ask God for his permission to change the world. When you say "oh that was God, He made this volcano erupt" you are mistaken. Devil is the God of evil, God is the God of light. And if he does not answer your questions, keep on praying. i remember reading in the bibble that the person in the bible prayed and prayed, but the devil blocked it. for 21 days he sat there praying, and finally the angel came. he explained what happend. so never give up hope. Explain to me what your religion is, and why it makes sense.
listen, all i know is that when i pray, i get my way. is that of coincidence? when i don’t pray(not ask for God’s permission) i get hurt. so we should pray continueally like it says in the bibble. if you are willing to show no faith, that is your problem. all i asked for you to do what simply explian why your religion makes sense and why you believe in it. but instead you insulted my religion, giving me no reason why you believe in yours. you can’t fly in the world, you can’t throw a football with your arm 540000000000000000 feet. but God can do anything. it is listed in the Bible, his works. When Christianity is mentioned, you swarm on it like it is the only truth, like it is a piece of meat. Any other religion and you are fine. I named my account Harry potter because those movies are entertaining. not because i believe in that. I said i am a beiliver in God, and what did you do? you said i believe in Harry Potter because i enjoy entertainment? pshhh please
hERbman i can see why you would think that. Well in the bible, Adam and Eve disobeyed God. So what happend for that? Death, Curse, Pain. Because the Devil came along and tricked them. Without the devil, the was good and perfection. with the devil, there is pain and disaster. you pray to God, and that is Giving God permission to interfeer with the world. "Please lord, give me strength" he says ok and he gives you strength. without him bad things happen. so you must pray continueally, and faithfully. fear not, he will comfort you.

My religion is not your religion and it makes sense because it’s not your religion.

Your answer didnt make sense…..yes I can tell you why mine does but its a long explanation and Im sure it includes answering some questions. Anyone whom says they can explain why their religion makes any kind of sense in a few sentences with no back and forth is someone that just wants everyone to say they agree with them, and doesnt want people to actually understand.

No one can explain that.

Religions, by definition are faith with no proof.

Been outside lately? You know mother nature? Even if we humans don’t think she makes sense, she very tangibly exists and controls every aspect of our lives, no matter how technologically advanced we think we are. There’s nothing that makes sense more than the cold, hard reality of nature.

im atheist and it makes sense because its not based on some book written by a few sheep herders a couple thousand years ago that makes claims that have proven scientifically impossible. now explain to the rest of us why it makes sense that you beleive in a man in the sky and a man "below us somewhere effect everything in existence even though there is absolutely no proof that they do. oh and that the magical man in the sky has a kid who can do magic tricks and for some reason him dying granted all of us amnesty of all of our evils. WTF?! And if god only makes good things happen, then why has every war ever carried out been fought in his name, huh?
sam | Feb 04, 2010

I understand what you are saying but I have to correct you one thing. Stop saying that the devil is the God of this world. The devil was at the point when Adam fell. Jesus died for us went to hell and resurrected. God owns this world now, only people are following a false god.

But that is just one of somethings from what you said that needs to be changed.

I mean not disrespect just correcting you. :) Jenny | Feb 04, 2010

m a pagan. I do not believe in your devil. I don’t care what belief you have as long as you don’t shove it on me.

My religion is right…for me. I have no desire to attempt to explain why as you are already biased against it. I was once Christian. Many years ago. I left it because of the stupidity that the believers adhere to instead of understanding it is metaphor.

my religion is wicca… and let me elaborate please… in my religion we find the divine throughout everything in the world… for we think not that the divine created it all… we are pagan and our ancestors were the first in religion, science, and medicine…. we believe in the big bang… we believe in evolution… we believe in the divine god and goddess as a collective conscience… and as a collective energy… we find neither the god or goddess is pure… nor are they completely evil…. we believe that they have their faults just like us humans… in the end we accept all paths…. and we have a rule called "an it harm none, do what ye will" if you wanna get right down to it that doesn’t mean we are allowed to do whatever we want… some of the things that are "sins" in your religion are discouraged in paganism… we can’t do anything intentionally that would harm someone… and if we hurt someone by accident we atone for it… i hope this gave a little more info on wicca for you… blessed be….

i do not believe in religion. but i do believe there is a higher being that protects me. my beliefs ar simple: i simply do not waste my time on religion because if yu actualy think about it what religion was god realy? all religious believs come dwn to one thing and one thing only: the belief in a higher being who man prays and hopes upon. i have askd evry religious individual i knw "what race was god, what were his beliefs and what was his religion?" some couldnt answer those questions and the ones who did (and from different religions] gave me just about the same answer. now you say god does not make bad happen, but the devil does. well i think god is the ruler/creator of all things human or living. i believe he desides whether you get shot in the head or live another hundred years. my message to you is not to force you into changing your religion, but to atleast think of what i am saying here.
maybe it helpss?

Confused thinking, help?
I feel like i’m going through life in a daze, like i’m seeing everything and acting normally and talking to everyone but i’m not focusing on any of that . All I can hear on the inside is silence or bad memories from my childhood, it feels like i’m stuck inside my own mind. I can sit and stare at a wall for hours on end, sometimes it’s dead quiet, other times it’s a cacophony of voices and memories. Each of these voices basically scream over each other so I can’t understand anything.
I used to cut and when one of my friends found out he asked me why and I couldn’t answer him. I felt like I had no control over myself, I knew what I was doing but I couldn’t stop. when he asked I fumbled for a reason I couldn’t find. I just had all these confused and fragmented thoughts and voices and memories flashing before my eyes and screaming at me. And I don’t want to get help because I can’t forgive the people who did this to me. That’s the only reason holding me back, I want to suffer and hate them…I know I could get help and still hate them but somethings holding me back. I can be extremely stubborn. Something is telling me I don’t need the help, that I should just struggle through the rest of life. It’s making me believe that pain is a good thing.
My thoughts are all over the place, I can’t really focus on anything for too long without becoming trapped in my mental cage.
I’m constantly thinking of ways to put myself in more physical pain, anorexia sounds tempting at the moment. Suicide is also always on my mind, and I always feel rather depressed and sometimes lethargic.

I just want to know, what’s wrong with me?
I really don’t think this is normal O______________O

Thanks for answering,
sorry if it’s a bit too long

There is nothing wrong with you, you are just carrying around a heap of bad stuff from the past which was done to you. There was something wrong with the way you were treated and this is making you feel terrible now. Unresolved hurts cause us pain until they are resolved. It sounds from what you say that you know what the wrongs which were done to you are (that makes it easier to deal with, though not necessary, you can deal with things even without knowing what they are!)
I would advise you to keep away from psychiatrists, they are very unhelpful. (If you want to know about the psychiatric profession’s unhelpfulness read Dr. Peter Breggin’s book "Toxic Psychiatry" (He is a good psychiatrist - there are about 4 in the world the drug companies have got the others.) There is a website that will help you if you DO IT. You will get a lot of relief, you’d be surprised!
The web address is http://www.redirectingselftherapy.com it’s free and makes a lot of sense. I wish more people knew about this site, it breaks my heart to read the questions from people in distress on yahoo and I know it isn’t necessary to go on suffering. I send you my very best vibes and a big hug. (This site cured my depression by the way)
The people who did these things to you were very damaged people and were once innocent babies before these things were done to them also. You’d have to go back and back for many generations to find the origins of the abuse.

Is this prolouge and start of my first chapter good?
I am a 13 year old girl and I am writing a fantasy/mystery story. It will be in 1st person and will have 2 main characters who will have a chapter each. This is my first draft. Here is the prologue and the start of the first chapter, can you give me your opinion on it please? Sorry for bad grammar it’s not my strong point. Thanks x

"So, will you do it or not?" Dave asked, his eyes were boring into me. I didn’t know what to do, me and my wife, Grace had been having money problems lately and this could solve everything. But it’s against the law my better judgement told me. I took a big breath.
"How much?"
"You won’t get your money until you have done what I ask, but it will be a lot. At least 2,000 dollars."
I let out a big breathful of air, that amount of money could solve all of our problems and more. Dave knew I needed the money that’s why he was asking me to do his dirty work. Dave was my boss, one of the richest men in Ohio, you could tell by looking at him. He was clean cut with his dark brown hair gelled back from his eyes, he was wearing a suit that probably cost the same amount of money as my car. His office was exactly the same, there was a window at the far end of the large room that took up the full wall and looked over onto the streets below, he had a large mahogany desk piled high with paper work and a sleek black laptop sat exactly in the centre of it. I was standing next to a very large potted plant that kept swaying in the breeze coming through the open window.
"Okay." I sighed "I’ll do it, but just this one time, if you ask me again I’ll say no."
Dave grinned showing of his dazzling white teeth, "You have made a very good decision Ryan, but if you betray me you’ll be sorry."
The venom of his words sent a shiver up my spine.
"Your free to go, and I wan you to work late tonight to make up the time you have lost talking to me."
My hand was twitching, ready to puch him, but I managed to make my feet move and slowly walk out of the room.

Chapter 1 - Ryan

Ding Dong. The sound of the doorbell made me jump, the house was eerily quiet and it was unusual, Grace was away at a job interview so I was on my own. l got up and went to the front door, I could see a tall and lean sillouete through the frosted glass window on the door. I peeped through spy hole and froze, it was Dave, oh god he was ment to be coming tomorro, I had everything planned out. When Grace came home I was going to tell her that we were going on holiday, of coarse we wouldn’t be it was a plan to get away form Dave. He rang the doorbell again repeatedly, he was getting mad
"Open the door Ryan, I know your in there."
I felt physically sick with fear, he was going to kill me I could see it in his eyes. Grace, was the only thought in my mind as I ran into the kitchen pulling open doors and cupboards, I had to write her a letter saying how sorry I was and giving her instructions. I eventually found a pen and started writing frantically. Grace, I was going to miss her so much, I went back to the front door. I am so sorry Grace I whispered before opening the door. Dave was standing on the doorstep, he was mad.
"Were have you been?" He spat.
"Sorry. I was in the shower."
"You know I don’t like waiting." He brung up his fist and slammed it into my face, I wasn’t expecting it, my nose burst open and blood spaterred all over the door. Dave went inside his jacket and brought out a small gun, I couldn’t draw my eyes away from it as he brought to my forehead and pushed me inside. I gulped and walked back slowly.
"You betrayed me Ryan, and you know what happens to people who betray me."
There was a bang and I felt excrucitating pain as the bullet entered my left temple.
I will always love you Gra …-

Is this anygood?

It could be.
Please work on your spelling and grammar! It is so hard to read and get where a story is going when half the reading time is spent deciphering what a word/phrase is supposed to actually be.
It does make me wonder, though, about the rest of the story, and that is what a writer needs to do- keep the reader reading.
Clean up the spelling, fix some grammatical errors (ex: ‘I know you’re in there’, not your; ‘brought’ not brung; and again, "you’re free to go’ not ‘your’- and those are just a few examples…)
Good luck. It could be good.

Great start!
I admire you, the first chapter can be one of the hardest parts to write!

To make it better I would add more description, like how people move and speak.
e.g. ‘I ran quickly’ or ‘I ran like a cat’ or ‘he said coldly’
Also, the onomatopoeia ‘Ding Dong’ doesn’t really need to be there. You could just start with ‘The sound of the doorbell….’

Also, ‘brought’ not ‘brung’

Do many Christians here admit to reading Bible-bashing websites just for the pure entertainment value of them?
Which websites do you prefer and would recommend to others? (And yes, I personally enjoy skepticsannotatedbible.com — but have you found any that are less cliched and don’t simply repeat the tired old classics?)

And which websites would you recommend for the classic flat-earth-type conspiracy theories, such as "Jesus never existed" or one that was posted as a Yahoo answer just minutes ago: "Most university scholars and historians will claim that Jesus existed just because the global religion industry makes sure that they do." [Anybody who has served on a state-sponsored university faculty in the U.S. or who knows anything about secular academia will enjoy that one. After all, university religion departments are such bastions of fundamentalist piety, after all!]

Which Bible-bashing websites do you consider your favorites, especially as an aid to teaching college students the answers to the more humorous and classic "Bible errors and contradictions" claims that they will be hear again and again? (e.g."bats are not birds’, "grasshoppers don’t have four legs", Pi doesn’t equal 3, "a whale isn’t a fish", "rabbits don’t chew cud")

(I appreciate your recommendations because I found that my students definitely enjoy reading and researching the classic Bible-bashing rants — but even more so the occasional new/novel diatribe. The majority of such sites are just the usual cut-and-paste cluelessness of the under-educated but occasionally one finds something new. And that is what I’m especially looking for to add to my revised syllabus. Plus, as the U.S. becomes less and less linguistically literate (with most universities no longer requiring at least four semesters of foreign language), more of the anti-Bible gripes are simply language-related ignorance — but some of them make for excellent translation studies.)

Clear and Present Danger (1994)

IMDB rating: 6.70

Plot: Based upon the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst, is thrust right in the middle of a power struggle within the Colombian drug cartel after one of the President’s “life long” friends is murdered, apparently in retaliation for stealing money as part of a money laundering scheme for the cartel. Jack is then appointed acting Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA, upon the terminal illness of Admiral James Greer, former DDI, and quickly gets in over his head due to his political naivete. The situation rapidly deteriorates when some of the presidents men convince the President to conduct covert actions against the cartel, in direct violation of congress. Felix Cortez, the security chief of Ernesto Escobeda, the “victim” of the missing money, is one of the cartel boss’s. Cortez tries to play both sides, appearing to inform Escobeda about the CIA’s involvement in the covert operations against him, while trying to orchestrate a coup to take over the cartel, with Cortez as it’s sole boss. James Cutter, the President’s National Security Advisor, makes his own deal with Cortez, with the Presidents knowledge, and halts communications to the covert troops still in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations, CIA, Robert Ritter. Ryan ends up going to Colombia to rescue the covet ops troops with the help of field agent John Clark, but not before some fence mending between the two, being that Ritter blamed Ryan for the comm outage, with Clark’s men subsequently being captured by Cortez’s mercenaries.

Yes he does! The terrorist will have to get in line behind him.

Quoting the London Telegraph:

"Watch out, France and Co, there is a new surrender monkey on the block and, over the next four years, he will spectacularly sell out the interests of the West with every kind of liberal-delusionist initiative on nuclear disarmament and sitting down to negotiate with any power freak who wants to buy time to get a good ICBM fix on San Francisco, or wherever. If you thought the world was a tad unsafe with Dubya around, just wait until President Pantywaist gets into his stride."

If the liberals don’t believe I’m quoting it correctly, just click on the link and see for yourself.

Is there a way to deal with my feelings of depression? s?
no happy pills ! note and that question about flat brimmed hats made me feel worse because I LEAVE my hats that way and that way and I LEAVE the fifty nine fiftey sticker on it because I don;t like messing with my cap and the way everyone wrote about people who did that made me feel lower than I was already is there a WAY to deal with this?
any answer from my contacts would help..
I have no friends I moved from Queens I HAVE no friends here in Merrick (Long Island)
and what if I said most of my contacts answered that question about that flat brimmed hat… and they said things I would never expect them to say…
I guess so..if they knew who they were hurting they wouldn’t have answered the question that way…in the matter that they did
great they say I look like a duck with my flat bill of my cap NOW I FEEL BAD!!!!!!!!!

I deleted my answer to that dumb flat brimmed question..too I can’t stand getting thumbed down for stating my feeling

I answered the hat question, I don’t wear them, but my step-son loves them, everyone likes their own thing and he looks cute in them. Though his first one was an Atlanta Braves, I like the Braves - good team, but I was like, next time you’re getting a Brewer, and he did. So, don’t feel badly about it, I was just mentioning that I look silly in them. I’m sorry about that, I should have mentioned my step-son who has a collection of them started. Let me just put it this way, they look good on a lot of people!

Since you don’t want any pills, I really suggest counseling. Years ago I went, much to my objections, but I did and it helped me greatly. They also have group support at many they can hook you up with, they have teen groups as well. I went to a group as well an individual counseling and it was really refreshing to hear others with the same problems or similar. In counseling you get to talk about whatever you like without being told the often repeated line by outsiders "Look at all the good things in your life, it could be worse" which never helps at all. Only makes things worse when people make you feel like you shouldn’t have any problems.

You could join school groups for finding some good friends. I’m going to sound like a parent here (I have 3 kids of my very own and 2 steps) but often kids that join after school groups such as sports or clubs find lifelong friends. The sport of Cross-Country running has the best group of good kids who really support one another. My dad is a coach and my super shy son went out. (Not on my dad’s team, we live 2 hours away). He clicked with some of the kids and they are very kindhearted.

I apologize Brandon, it was not my intention to make anyone feel badly. I do understand your depression, I went through it from about age 12 to age 28. It wasn’t until counseling that I got better.

Edit: I deleted mine too after answering your question. I felt so bad.

Just don’t let that get to you! and it’s a silly question what’s wrong with having a flat brimmed hat I do it too :P I like the Braves and I use that type on my Peak of my hat also I would say it’s something not to pay much attention to..especially those who answered it and made fun of them if it mad you feel bad in anyway why don’t you just tell them.. and I see that isn’t right to judge a person by anyway… you can try to take you’r mind off of it by doing anything answering question..why am I the only one of your contacts who answered this?

Edit:You mean some of your contacts answered the question and their answers made you feel low right?I’ll have to see what they wrote..

Edit 2:My word you’re right I’d never seen anyone write anything bad about others I guess they didn’t know you wore you’re caps that way or they’d think twice about writing what they wrote and know who they are hurting and I wear my caps that way too…

I been battling depression on & off the last few months myself since being laid off from my job & other personal problems in my life. Only think i can suggest right now is to hang in there & to keep yourself busy.. Do things that u like doing & keep yourself busy so that u don’t think about it much. You will make friends in due time. Just be patient & give it a lil time especially if u just moved to a new neighborhood. I drink Chamomile Tea on occasion when I’m down especially before i go to bed. It is a good stress relaxer. I’m sorry i couldn’t help more but hope this helps & hope you get better soon.

They don’t want you to be standoutish for the wrong reason. Make sure and bath daily, go to bed early, and eat as normally as you can. Keep your hair as close to your way of cutting it that you can. Try to find a normal multi vitamin and mineral tablet like One-A-Day for men and take one every day. At night if you feel too awake then stay in bed and try to keep your eyes closed. If you get tired during the day go lay down with the covers turned back and in your jammie ware. Take care of yourself cause there is only one of you. Signed, Dr. Strangelove.

hon, it’s ok if that’s how you wear the hat. i’d bet $100 right here and now that i wear something that annoys the bejeesus out of you too :)

but i have a strong sneaking suspicion that the hat question has little to nothing to do with how you feel. it’s just one more thing to add on, to bad feelings. i have been there. right where you are. i found out that sharing the feelings was the hardest part of my depression though because i didn’t want to bring anyone around me down.

i was eventually referred to a counselor (on a sliding scale. i was paying $5 a session since i’m so effing poor) and it helped so much. you are a new contact of mine so i am not sure how old you are, but if you are still in grade school, you can visit your school’s counselor for free. you should take advantage of that.

please don’t let what others say….especially on yahoo answers bring ya down, ok? after i submit this, i am off to delete my flat hat comment.

Hey, it’s all gonna be okay trust me. Who cares what other people think about your hat??. You have to get out there and meet new people. Don’t sit on Y!A all day :). I know it’s hard since you just moved but you have got to get out there and meet new people.

You’ll be alright, trust me :) My paper heart :P Go Rays! :D | Aug 28, 2009

Brandon, it may be hard to believe but there is not a person in the world who hasn’t felt down and thought no one would understand. We are human beings not machines and therefore we have feelings.

I don’t know what people said to you but a lot of people don’t realize how words can hurt, even words said in jest. This site can be a lot of fun and an interesting venue to share thoughts and ideas and pass on information. You cannot let a few rude and insensitive people ruin your time on here. These people find courage in the fact they can say whatever they want because they are anonymous.

I don’t go on the baseball site very often but I know there are a lot of good fans of the game on here.If you want to ,you can block a user you feel was offencive.

I can tell you from life experience it takes more courage and character to be your own person and believe in your choices than to meekly follow the crowd .Try to believe in yourself. You sound like a nice fellow.
